Homeless, Shoeless, Even Nameless

Posted By: wbhazel1 on October 17, 2011 at 10:01 am

Here is another great article which speaks to all of us helping professionals who work with mentally ill, chemically addicted patients. We often feel so confident about stripping them of their steadfast friends or companions meaning alcohol or other drugs as well as their hallucinations. One thing for us to consider is when you take something away from a patient what are you giving them to substitute for their loss? Or are we only taking things away which quite often have served a purpose in their life, like giving them comfort, solace or much needed sleep?

I think appropriate medication management combined with therapy can provide new, more useful tools and allow the luster of the individual to once again shine through for all the world to see.

Please enjoy this article, one of my favorites which reminds me why we do what we do.
